JANUARY 27, 2022 – The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today its revised 2021-22 format with the resumption of play beginning on January 31st, 2022:
- 48-Game Regular Season
- 3-week extension to Regular Season to now conclude on April 3rd, 2022
- Playoffs to commence on April 6th, 2022
- GOJHL Events including the Future Stars / Top Prospects and GOJHL Showcase cancelled for 2021-22
- Playoff format to be finalized in near future
“After what everyone has been through, including our players and entire GOJHL community, it was our clubs’ number one priority to ensure that our players receive a full season in 2021-22. However, it was very unfortunate that we had to make the very difficult decision to cancel the events that further showcase our players due to time constraints and health and safety factors,” stated GOJHL Commissioner Brent Garbutt.
Many games have already been rescheduled and all GOJHL clubs are working diligently to finalize new dates for the remaining ones. As per Provincial guidelines, fans will be permitted to attend games as of January 31st, with a maximum of 500 people or 50% capacity, whichever is less.
The GOJHL is currently awaiting approvals from its governing bodies before finalizing a decision on the 2021-22 playoff format, with several options currently on the table.
“Our clubs have been working diligently on various scenarios in case we are unable to maintain our regular playoff format and in preparation for what may come our way in the future,” added Garbutt.
The GOJHL looks forward to seeing everyone again soon!
