Edgar scores 3 more points; Maroons move one win away from championship
15-year-old AP call-up Eamon Edgar scored his team-leading 6th goal of the series and added two assists to lead the Chatham Maroons to a 5-2 win over the St. Catharines Falcons in front of 1213 fans at Memorial Arena in Chatham, taking a 3-2 series lead.
For Edgar — a 2nd round draft pick of the OHL’s Barrie Colts — the goal was his 7th of the playoffs, and he now has 11 points in the series, tying him for the series scoring lead with teammate Dylan Richter who had 2 assists.
Richter — who has 10 points in his last 3 games — now has 9 assists in the Sutherland Cup final, breaking the GOJHL record of 8 first set by London’s Noah Schwartz in the 7-game final against the Cambridge Redhawks in 2013, and matched by Matthew Hore in Caledonia’s 4-game sweep of the Nationals in 2016.
Carter Chadwick opened the scoring for the Maroons (15-9) midway through the first with his 13th goal of the playoffs, tying Richter for most in the GOJHL post-season. Edgar scored two minutes later. Noah Mathieson (5) and Sean Truby (10) scored goals 12 seconds apart early in the second period to make it 4-0. Connor Hunt added his 9th goal of the playoffs in the third.

Ally Mostafaie (9) and Brendan Grenville (9) scored for the Falcons (14-6).
One night after being pulled in the first period of Thursday’s Game 4 loss, Maroons netminder Gannon Hunter (W, 15-8) stopped 38 of 40 shots faced. Hayden Jeffery (L, 14-6) made 38 saves for the Falcons.
The Maroons improved their home record in the playoffs to 10-3, while the Falcons are now 6-4 on the road.
Chatham won for the first time in the playoffs when playing on the second of consecutive nights. They were winless in three previous attempts. The Falcons are now 4-3 in the second of back-to-back games.
Chadwick’s goal came on the Maroons’ only power play of the game. Chatham is now 8/19 (42.1%) on the power play in the series. The Falcons were 1/2 with the man advantage and are 2/17 (11.8%) in the series.
Game 6 will take place Sunday night at the Seymour-Hannah S.E.C. in St. Catharines. Game time is 7:00pm.
