The victory was Chatham’s first win in a Sutherland Cup final in 20 years, the last coming in Game 4 of the 2005 final against the Thorold Blackhawks.
Carter Chadwick scored his 9th and 10th goals of the playoffs for the Maroons (13-7), with goals also coming from Trevor Zanutto (2) and Ewan McChesney (2).

VIDEO: Game 1 highlights and interviews
The 15-year-old Edgar — chosen in the 2nd round (35th overall) by the Barrie Colts in the 2025 OHL Priority Draft — is the youngest player in GOJHL history and only the second ‘rookie’ to record a hat-trick in a Sutherland Cup Finals game. The only other rookie to do so was Mike Rebry, who scored 3 goals for the Brantford Golden Eagles in a 5-2 win over the Falcons in Game 1 of the 2012 Final.
The most recent hat-trick by any player in a Sutherland Cup Final was by Connor MacPherson of the Leamington Flyers in a 4-0 win over the Stratford Warriors in Game 7 of the 2023 Final.
The 7 goals by the Maroons are the most they have scored in a Sutherland Cup Final game since a 10-2 win over the Stratford Cullitons in Game 2 of the 1999 final.
